Bajirao Mastani is an Indian historical romance film produced and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film narrates the story of the Maratha warrior Peshwa (Prime Minister) Bajirao I of the Maratha Empire and his second wife Mastani. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, and Deepika Padukone.

Bajirao Mastani portrays the epic romance between Bajirao a Maratha Hindu king and Mastani a princess whose father is a rajput and mother is a Muslim. Bajirao is already married to Kashibai (Priyanka Chopra) but falls in love with a princess during a war scene.

Bajirao’s family never accepts Mastani as his legally wedded second wife and are always trying to insult her saying she is just a dancer who is fit to be a keep of the king Bajirao.

Bajirao would have won 40 back to back battles by then but stands to lose his own personal life battle due to his infidelity with his first wife Kashibai (Priyanka Chopra). Kashibai struggles to come terms with her husband’s infidelity but slowly realizes that he loves Mastani passionately much more than her.

Kashibai wishes she were Bajirao ‘s love interest rather than being his wife since the world remembers radhe Krishna, Radha the love interest of Lord Krishna than his legally Wed wife Rukmini.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has hit the Bulls eye with this epic drama which he originally wanted to make with Salman and Aishwarya around 15 years back. He has painted every scene as an artist which can be preserved for lifetimes to come.

Deepika dazzles in every scene and looks stunning every bit as the ever beautiful Mastani. Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika have given their career best performances and this film will go down as one of the finest historic films ever recreated on the silver screen. Priyanka plays the complex character of Kashibai who has to show her love and disappointed lovelorn wife of King Bajirao.

The sets are grand, the scenes are emotional and intense, the cinematography is like rendering of a continuous painting with 24 frames per second. Ranveer Singh expresses himself as Bajirao by metamorphosizing himself into the skin of the character. The war scenes are aesthetically shot and the VFX effects are impressive.

There are some unforgettable dialogues like Bajirao ne Mastani se mohabbat ki hai aiyaashi nahi.. Magar apne Humse hamara ghuroor hee cheen liya.. Bajirao ki talvar kabhi bhi maat de skating hain..

The film is 157 minutes in length but you never feel it as every scene is rendered meaningfully without deviating from the love triangle theme of the film which will keep you involved till the end.

The music by Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself is very soulful especially the solo dance number of Deepika which will sooth your senses. It kind of reminds you of the cult classic Mughal e Azam. The background score is also highly impactful.

People tried comparing it with Baahubali but Bajirao Mastani is emotionally at an altogether different level which gives out the message about being secular and that love knows no religion and it’s a religion by itself.

The film is an epic historic rendition which will go into the golden books of the history of Indian Cinema. You feel for this couple in the climax which is so impactful which is typical of Sanjay Leela Bhansali films. The climax is only 2nd best to the impactful climax of his own film Devadas.

This film is not to be missed by any movie buff.
